IRAN - IRAQ WAR : In Pictures ![]() Defenders : An Iranian heavy Artillery fires on enemy positions as the Iraqi troops invade Iran (1982). Iran survived the former part of the war by the stock pile of weapons purchased by the Shah, and continued to purchase weapons sometimes for as much as ten times the market value, due to U.S. and Allies` so called embargo. U.S. and the Soviets made billions of dollars in profits through third parties, having sky-rocketed the price of weapons by the apparent embargo. The Iran-Contra Affair was only one publicized example. ©1996 F. Sadeghi
