Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri Publishes His Memoirs

December 15, 2000
Ayatollah Montazeri who was once selected to lead as
the supreme leader of Iran following Ayatollah Khomeini's death in 1998
has published his memoirs. These memoirs have been banned in Iran and
provide a unique insight into Iran's revolutionary history before and
after the revolution. Ayatollah Montazeri was ousted and stripped of his
title in 1988 by Ayatollah Khomeini, just prior to the leader's death due
to his public criticism of the government. He has been under house arrest
ever since.
